La Salle Novitiate Lipa: Bro Vincent Keating (ANZPPNG) has taken up his appointment as Director of Novices with Brothers Harry Reynolds, Peter Foo and Jun Estrellas all from LEAD making up the community of the staff. Over the weekend 13 candidates arrived to commence their novitiate. Three of the novices are from the District of ANZPPNG: Luke Warvanuk (PNG); Samuel Tabish and Rehman Javed (Pakistan) and ten are from LEAD: Edgar Esparagosa, John Ryann Gallego, Abet King Pia, Cliff Fernando Sy, Mark Salvan and Angelo Paul Mata (Philippines); Johnny Kaewkanha (Thailand); Bosco La Ga Mang Htoi, Francis Ga La Seng and John Win Kyaw (Myanamar). Peter Foo is leading the novices in a three days’ commencement retreat. Let us keep the novitiate staff and the novices in our prayers.

 

First Professions: Across the Region novices who recently completed the novitiate have made or will make their First Profession. Bro Francis Geri professed his Vows at Hohola, PNG on 1 April and Br Tharshan Peiris on 6 May in Colombo.
Brothers Vincent Tang (Malaysia) and Ignasius Henri (Indonesia) will profess their Vows in Malaysia on 26 May. The profession of the novices from the Philippines Sector of LEAD; Brothers Butch Alcudia, Joseph Daluz, Toby De La Cruz, Angelo Paragas and Dan Sanding, will take place in Manila on 16 June. Bro Alvaro, Superior General will be present as the Vows’ ceremony occurs during the closing events of the centennial year. Brothers Waseem Azad and Saddique Gill of Pakistan will profess their Vows on 10 June in Faisalabad.

 

Perpetual Profession Programme Vietnam: Five Brothers in the District of Vietnam are currently in a three months’ programme in preparation for their Perpetual Profession. They are: Brothers Joseph Vu Chi Cuong, Andrew Dinh Van Phung, Francis Xavier Ha Thuong Tinh, Peter Phan The Truong and Peter Tran Van Tuan.

 

Perpetual Profession Programme India: Brothers Martin and Joachim of the Delegation of India will commence a programme later in the year. Vocations Ministry: The Region is blessed to have novices in the regional novitiate in Lipa and in the District of Vietnam novitiate. The presence of candidates in formation programmes and Brothers professing vows is a sign of hope for their respective countries and the Institute. This is a reminder also to give priority to vocations ministry in the Region. I urge you to keep sending “good news” stories about vocations’ ministry and examples of best practice in this ministry to Bro John Pill for publication in “Hearts on Fire”.

 

Celebration Australia: On Sunday Bro Oliver O’Leary (ANZPPNG) celebrated his 99th birthday and 80 years as a Brother. Congratulations to Bro Oliver. I am told that in Vietnam there is a Brother who is 102 years of age!
