SJI International School – Challenge Week in Myanmar Sector
Seven Students, Rachel Fung Wan Ching, Fang Nicole, Teo Minyi, Tran AnhDuy, Hubert Theodore, Truong Duy, Magdalena Sun from St. Joseph Institution International school from Singapore had a Challenge Week in Myanmar last October 15 to 21, 2011. Their Challenge Week in Myanmar is part of their 11th year activities. The main purpose of having a Challenge Week is to have – A learning experience, being organized in all the logistical elements, to include travel to a country other than Singapore; engage in cultural exchange and mutual learning with local people in the country visited; where possible include creative activities and physical challenges; complete report due upon return to SJI-International as part of CAS points toward the IB Diploma.
The SJI_International students toured around the country and conducted classes with the students from our Lasalle Learning Center.
These seven students arrived in Yangon on 15th October, 2011 and went up to Mandalay in the evening accompanied by Brother Lawrence and visited Mandalay Hill, Old Palace, Moat and some other interesting places. They took a public bus up to Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin) and visited the Brothers community, interacted with the boarders and postulants and visited some interesting places such as caves, water falls, and botanical garden.
They came back to Yangon the next day and conducted some English classes, games, and other activities with the students from our Learning Center for three days. They met the hostellers from the Provincialate and had very challenging activities with them during these three days in Yangon. The Brothers gave them a farewell party on 21st evening and they left for Singapore on 22nd.
